The grand old man of Indian hospitality industry, Captain C P Krishnan Nair on Thursday stepped down as the Chairman of Hotel Leelaventure, the company he founded in 1981.
Nair is credited for introducing the West to a fabric called Bleeding Madras. It used vegetable dyes and the colour washed away with every wash. He marketed it in the United States as a fabric that would look different after every round in the laundry.
Mourning Nair's demise will not only be his family members and thousands of well-wishers and employees of Leela Palace Hotels and Resorts, which he founded at the ripe age of 67.
